The halls of Johnson County School District (JCSD) buzzed with energy and optimism on August 3rd, as over several hundred students and parents participated in the EMPOWER Academies. The academy was designed to kick off the year on a positive note. The event introduced new students in kindergarten, 7th grade, and 9th grade to the campus and the principles that will guide their learning.
Students received EMPOWER Academy t-shirts sponsored by ARH with the theme "ARH & Golden Eagles Empowering a Healthy Future with 7 Habits." The event focused on sharing the 7 Habits of Happy Kids, including key concepts like "Be Proactive" and "Begin with the End in Mind." Students also received age-appropriate books to reinforce the habits.
A highlight for many students was meeting school staff, including the principal, teachers/instructional assistants, Leader In Lighthouse members, Community School Coordinators, Family Resource Youth Center Directors, custodians, and food service workers. Students toured classrooms, gym, cafeteria, and playground. Several commented that it helped ease first-day jitters and get them excited for the year ahead.
At the EMPOWER Parent/Guardian Academy, families explored the campus, connected with school staff, and learned about health services offered through ARH. The physician assistant was on hand at Highland Elementary to answer questions.
Parents were thrilled to see their children's smiles and pride.
Thanks to sponsor ARH, students enjoyed motivational t-shirts. The Full-Service Community Schools Grant and the dedication of Johnson County School District staff made the event possible. A huge thank you to all students, parents/guardians, and community members. The future looks bright as students soar into the new year with 7 empowering habits!
