The Johnson County School District, in collaboration with Johnson County Judge Executive Mark McKenzie, the Johnson County Fiscal Court, and a local developer, is excited to announce the development of KP FunPlex, a state-of-the-art entertainment center. This 62,500-square-foot facility will be conveniently located near the new Johnson Central High School campus, adjacent to Walmart, making it an ideal spot for students and families.

KP FunPlex will provide a variety of activities tailored to all age groups, enhancing the recreational options for our students and the entire school community. The facility will feature 24 bowling lanes, a two-level go-kart track, laser tag, arcade games, 4D and VR gaming experiences, axe throwing, and multiple party rooms. Additionally, a family-friendly restaurant will be part of the complex, creating a complete entertainment destination.

Superintendent Thom Cochran enthusiastically stated, “We are thrilled about adding KP FunPlex to our community. This facility will offer a safe, fun environment for our students to relax and socialize, especially evenings and weekends. It’s an incredible opportunity to provide our kids with positive, engaging activities outside school hours.  This will also secure preferred access to the 24 bowling lanes for our bowling teams.  This will greatly reduce our need to travel to other facilities and provide us the opportunity to host tournaments right here in our community. We are grateful to the Johnson County Fiscal Court and County Judge, Mark McKenzie for this partnership and opportunity.”

Johnson County Judge Executive Mark McKenzie also shared his appreciation, saying, “On behalf of the fiscal court, I want to extend my gratitude to Johnson County Schools and the school board for their partnership in seizing this unique opportunity.  By collaborating with a private developer, we’re not only bringing student and family-friendly entertainment to our community but also driving increased traffic and economic growth in the region.”

Chairman of the Board Bob Hutchison stated, “The new high school will be a beacon for the community. This project helps the beacon to shine brighter and will bring hope to the community with activities geared around all students and adults alike. This concept has been in the works for quite a while. Hopefully, the momentum behind it will bring it to fruition. As a community leader, Joe Taylor once said, ‘Dream Big’.”

This collaboration highlights the strong relationship between the Johnson County School District and local government, focusing on initiatives that benefit students and the broader community. Construction of KP FunPlex is slated to begin in 2025, and it promises to become a major attraction, enriching the lives of Johnson County residents and visitors alike.
