The Kentucky High School Athletic Association announced its Hall of Fame class for 2022 this afternoon.
Included in the inductees were JC Alumni David Couch('79) and Jim Matney, JCHS football coach from 2004 until his tragic passing in 2021.
David Couch lettered in four sports while at Johnson Central, basketball, football, cross country, and golf. Couch went on to graduate from West Point and currently serves the Kentucky Department of Education, where he is the Associate Commissioner in the Office of Educational Technology.
Jim Matney amassed 309 career victories, appearing in 5 KHSAA State Championships, and winning twice. Coach Matney was a two-time KHSAA State Wrestling Champion coach, and has been named coach of the year in both sports on multiple occasions. More important than his athletic success, Coach Matney molded generations of young people for the better, leaving a positive impact and lasting legacy on Johnson County Schools that will resonate for decades to come.
We are tremendously proud that these two gentlemen will represent Johnson Central High School on May 15th and the KHSAA/Dawahares Hall of Fame Ceremony.
