Our BARR team had an excellent conference this week in California! They presented on how JCHS uses several creative scheduling processes to scale up the BARR model from 9th to 10th grade. They were also able to hear from KY Lt Governor Jacqueline Coleman concerning the value of the BARR program in KY schools.
BARR stands for Building Assets Reducing Risk and is one of the premier 9th grade academy models in the nation. BARR has been highly effective at JCHS through reducing course failure rates, providing intervention, and connecting students to opportunities within the school.
Johnson County was represented in California by BARR Team members: Asst, Superintendent Noel Crum, JCHS Principal Justin Arms, BARR Coordinator and Principal Marc Shepherd, CTE Principal Monica Daniel, WR Castle BARR Coordinator Kealy Coleman, 9th Grade Counselor Jarred Gibson, Community Schools Coordinator Alley Garner, Math Interventionist Amanda Austin, Reading Interventionist Mellanie Hicks, and BARR teacher Megan Wilson.
Congratulations to JCHS Senior Ashlyn Patrick! Ashlyn applied, interviewed and has been accepted to the prestigious Osteopathic Medical Scholars Program at the University of Pikeville. This highly competitive program provides a 4 + 4 experience with guaranteed medical school admission. We are so proud of you Ashlyn!
It's end of the year testing time! All 10th and 11th graders plus any student who signed up for an AP exam will be completing those tests in May.
The entire testing schedule with room locations and dates for each student have been posted in the grade-level google classrooms. Encourage your child to add that info to their calendars or plug them into their phone.
If they have a conflicting appointment that they cannot reschedule, have them stop in Mrs. Caudill's office, email micca.caudill@johnson.kyschools.us, or call 606-789-2500. We are here to help and want your child to be successful!

In order to avoid any more confusion...
1. The yearbook staff will collect ALL photo submissions before posting another list. The lists are too difficult to keep correctly updated with so many pictures being submitted.
2. Before the due date, we will publish a list of those who have NOT submitted, and they will have the chance to turn one in.
3. If you have been told that we have your pictures, we do. If you haven't heard from us, be patient. We try to respond to emails after the pic is uploaded to the appropriate drive.
We are working hard to ensure that EVERY senior will be included in the yearbook. The drive and lists will be checked multiple times, and if any senior pic is missing, we will address it.
That being said, if you have not already submitted pictures, please do so as soon as possible. Thanks!!!
Get your car washed for prom and support the Golden Eagle Marching Band as they get ready to march in the National Memorial Day Parade in Washington DC!
