Johnson Central's PLTW Biomedical Science empowers students to build knowledge and skills in biomedical science, as well as in-demand, transportable skills like problem solving, critical and creative thinking, communication, and collaboration. The four courses include:
Principles of Biomedical Science
From design and data analysis to outbreaks, clinical empathy, health promotion, and more, students explore the vast range of careers in biomedical sciences. They develop not just technical skills, but also in-demand, transportable skills that they need to thrive in life and career.
Human Body Systems
Through projects such as determining the identity of a skeleton using both forensic anthropology and DNA analysis, students examine the interactions of human body systems and apply what they know to solve real-world medical cases.
Medical Interventions
Students delve into activities like designing a prosthetic arm as they follow the life of a fictitious family and investigate how to prevent, diagnose, and treat disease.
Biomedical Innovation
Students build on the knowledge and skills gained from previous courses to design their own innovative solutions for the most pressing health challenges of the 21st century.

JCHS offers Engineering as a CTE pathway in combination with core pathway courses such as AP Calculus (AB and BC), AP Physics Algebra, and AP Physics Mechanics. Students also have the opportunity to earn additional college credit through End of Program exam articulation agreements.
Several 2022 seniors who completed this pathway and rigorous coursework were recognized for their efforts with a Stanley and Karen Pigman Scholarship. This scholarship, to the University of Kentucky or Bluegrass CTC, is a FULL scholarship with allowances for housing, tuition, and other associated fees.

Johnson Central offers 15 advanced placement courses, which allows examinees to earn college credit if they pass the end of the year exam. Many students also earn between $200 and $300 in bonus KEES money for EACH exam that they pass! Our students registered for 238 advanced placement exams this past spring and we are anxious for July 5 to come so we can celebrate their scores!

JCHS is a full service testing center that provides every single examinee with pencils and a TI-84 calculator on exam day. We print admission tickets and make photo identification as well for each examination. Our center offers the PSAT/NMSQT, ACT on Saturdays as well as Sundays, SAT, SAT School Day, ASVAB, Advanced Placement, KYOTE, End of Program assessments, and Industry Certifications.

Competitions at Skills Nationals include the best students in the nation and these awards are given by judges that are experts in their fields to individuals who impress even among the outstanding competition. This year, 11 Johnson Central students were awarded a Skill Point award in their competition. There will be a post for every team that recieved one:
